I've talked about the 32-Bit Cafe community on here a few times (like in my "where to find me" post), but I wanted to make a separate post. If you're interested in making a personal website, starting a blog, creating an RSS feed, getting into reading other people's RSS feeds, going back to forum communities, or even just making your own links page that doesn't rely on carrd, I'd like to recommend 32-Bit Cafe!
You made it! Welcome to the 32-Bit Cafe. We're a community of like-minded website hobbyists and professionals helping to make the personal web fruitful and bountiful again, full of self-expression and removing the capitalistic drive out of it. Want to get out of the same cycle of bouncing between different social media? Us too, that's why we're working together to change how we live digitally and online.
They have a Discourse Forum and a Discord (both 18+ but SFW). I love the forum as a place to slow down; there are threads about web development (including a Help category if you're stuck with something), but also general fun life things! I've really enjoyed it as a place to read people's blog posts, join a code jam, learn about blog prompts or challenges, and hang out.
They have a bunch of resources on their website such as:
- Ideas for Your Personal Website
- Creating Your Own Website
- Interacting with Other Websites
- Massive Resources List
They also have free hosted services for the community, such as:
- @32bit.cafe Email
- Etherpad Collaborative Docs
- FreshRSS Instance - this is how I follow RSS feeds!
- Pixelfed Photo Sharing (16+)
