tl;dr: I get what they're going for enough that I think I'll play it for a while once it drops.
I still want them to add Aliza though, Soriz as my monk option is a pass for me

  • rollback for GBVSR seems to be pretty stable. Didn't have any really bad matches I can think of, but the loading times are still about as long as I remember GBVS's being so matches will take a little while to get going.
  • to be honest? i don't mind the changes to technical vs. simple input. i know part of this is narmaya muscle memory kicking in, but basically speaking I used technical input for combos because having the hard physical mnemonic of having to do inputs sits better with making sure i'm more deliberate about what i do and don't want to do, while I did simple inputs pretty much only to make sure I didn't drop skybound arts or super skybound arts.
  • that said: i definitely don't want technical inputs completely gone but insofar as sba and ssba goes it does feel like technical input for those moves is a little redundant now unless there are still differences between technical sba/ssba and simple sba/ssba.
  • switching out universal overhead for autocombo low/autocombo high...I kinda get it, it's to promote variety in autocombo strings but something about it seems not super fitting. not engaging? hard to say.
  • the new ex specials also seem pretty cool but not being able to combo into them from normals is also kinda stiff. for some of them i can see why that's the case, but it feels like the possibility space is a little too narrow at the moment.
  • guard break is really powerful and kind of scary. i didn't get to lab out proper answers to it but i suspect that the main thing will be trying to jab or reversal it if you anticipate it's coming. i think the cost it has relative to the impact it can bring to a match is pretty well considered, especially when you're near corner and have all your heavy special moves off cooldown.

generally speaking it still has the aspects of GBVS that I liked originally and I'm not super convinced that a lot of the complaints I've seen are significant enough issues to not buy the game. i'll probably pick it up on full release and give it a good go

but i really need someone rushdown hand to hand that isn't Soriz cygames and arcsys i beg you please give me aliza
