like seriously, hear me out. the original msg anime, and especially the recompilation movie, makes no bones about how shit the whole one year war is for amuro and the white base crew. amuro's experiences piloting the rx-78-2 in the one year war alone are absolutely fucked, I'm not going into detail right now. but the song is resolute and steadfast sounding, telling the listener to take down enemies, telling the Gundam to rise and fly and all that. it is painting the Gundam as a brave warrior as an opening for a series that in every incarnation, even the fighting tournament one, goes out of its way to point out that capitalism is a fuck and war/proxy warring is a tool for government and individuals to act as corrupt shitjacks.
who does the federation want to be motivated to rip zeon a new one at any cost? their rank and file soldiers. so what better way to do that by making a song about how absurdly great your new weapon is and broadcasting that shit all over the place??
