I've been challenging people to name an app that has made the world a better place.

Despite all of the hullabaloo, the upper limit for apps seems to be "we made an old thing less cumbersome (but it steals all of your personal information)"

Right around the time we had RSS in full swing, it really felt like we actually figured out how to Run An Internet. Then we just sorta kept going until we started to forget about the good ideas that were already working.

I used reader SO much, too. I think Google Reader was the first time I really got burned by Google killing off projects just because. One of these days they'll deprecate Google Authenticator and a bunch of people are just gonna get locked out of all their accounts, istg.
