in reply to @Willow's post:

for your consideration, some place names from real life:

  • Austria (Österreich), whose name means "Eastern realm"
  • Essex, which comes from "East Saxons" (see also Wessex "West Saxons," Middlesex "Middle Saxons" and Norfolk "Northern people")
  • Northampton and Southampton ("hampton" means "home farm")
  • Cornwall, the "corn" of which means "horn," referring to the peninsula it is on (the "wall" part means foreigners, and is where "Wales" came from, so it basically means "Horn Wales" or "Peninsular Wales")
  • the River Avon (which there are several of: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/River_Avon) - Avon means "river." (Highly recommend checking out Wikipedia's list of tautological place names: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tautological_place_names)
  • Spain, which might be named after having rabbits (or forging)
  • Occitania, which is named after the way people said "yes" there back in the day (óc)
