I can definitely recommend making small things as practice for making big things. Finishing something and having it played by other folks helps you learn a lot of things you might not otherwise, better to do that in small doses, rather than on The Big One, as it were.
I'd be happy to play such a thing and give feedback (I am only a hobbyist dev, tho)
