starting out i need really heavy constraints and structure: tell me what to do, make it super mechanical, give me little things i can do over and over and over again, to the point where i get bored with it and just start fucking around with it in between lessons or i try to run ahead
and then drag me back to the lesson i was supposed to be at so i can do it all again from a slightly more forward starting point
until i finally hit a breakpoint where i feel like i can just run wherever the hell i want to
so this like, 30-day 'here's a bunch of clear drawing exercises thing', this is great for me
which so far has involved me drawing a bunch of balls, and trying to shade them and understand light sources despite that not being the assignment at the moment, and doing so poorly!
some of them are better-rendered than others
i'd honestly like a better mechanical pencil brush for krita, though i like the pen brush i'm using now all right
also despite this being "day 2" i sort of ran ahead after doing the "day 2" exercise a few times and did days 3 and 4. i'll make sure tomorrow i start with the day 3 and day 4 exercises a few times before i do day 5, and so on and so forth?
you're like "i'm bored, fuck what day it is, i'm gonna draw some mother-fucking cylinders" and then you're like "okay cool that was fun, how about a weird ball golem stomping in from the horizon"
but then i decided to do the "day 6" exercise with pencil and paper, which was fun but maybe a mistake
also here's the redraws of days 3 - 5
the day 8 exercise is eyeballs looking the same direction
in honor of spooky season i made them kinda veiny
also have days 4 - 7 again
i do feel like my lines are getting straighter and more consistently closer to parallel when i want them to be, and my circles are getting more circular-feeling
it's so hard to quantify though, and once i paste the images into a chost, i start noticing how wobbly my lines still are etc. so maybe it's placebo a little
