hello everyone! i've released my first single, a collaboration with the very talented susan l. hahn! i wanted to capture the spirit of a 90s playstation era jrpg ending, and i think we did a really good job here.

it is available as a pay-what-you-want track on my bandcamp:

you can find susan on her twitch channel at https://twitch.tv/jaidlyngaming

the incredible cover art is by the inimitable @robinandcat who takes commissions by the way! they're amazing, check them out!

and if you enjoy the song, i would really appreciate you sharing this post so more people can see it!

if you haven't, i encourage you to at least take advantage of the free flac download of my single, even if you don't buy it!

you can always pay for it later if you want or need to!

and i want to try some complex rhythmic stuff, because i've never written polyrhythms intentionally before

one thing with being self-taught and starting late is that if i'm not intentional about stuff, i end up with a bigger struggle to lay down the musical ideas i want

when i was starting out a couple of years ago, i wrote a piece with my daw set to 110 bpm and the patterns all set to 4/4. i revisited it a year and half later and realized that what i had was actually in 12 at closer to 145 bpm, so i rewrote the entire song, actually thinking about the meter, and it was a much easier process to lay the parts against each other, even just mechanically within the saw

all this to say that i am intentionally going to put together a 3 over 5 rhythm here to give myself another tool to work with
