Beware the drives of March... er, July.
I accidentally deleted everything in the main PC documents folder somehow by disabling one drive. It put everything in the recycle bin, son promptly emptied the recycle bin. I managed to disable the sync and then disabled one drive and it says "we're going to delete all your files" ok so that's weird, I don't care that you delete my files on one drive, it was backing up needlessly.
NO.
It meant delete the local files ๐
I went to undelete. There are of course a billion undelete solutions but turns out Microsoft has a new utility for Win10/11 that will restore your files! It recovers files but it doesn't track where they originally lived. So if you lose a picture, or an excel file or something definitive I would recommend the file restore utility but it was useless in this case. You'd have to know the extension of the save files as well as where they lived originally in order to restore them. I was left with a folder for PDFs, one for XLS, one for PNG, etc.
I -was- able to eventually restore from the not-deleted one drive Documents folder but holy hell did it give me palpitations. The majority of the files lost were all saved games and many of them aren't cloud save enabled.
