Salubrious

A grand and intoxicating innocence

Hey, don't ask me my opinion -- I'm nobody. Just pretend I'm not here.

I mostly just post about things tangentially related to The Simpsons, or Morrowind or The X-COM Files.

I watched the first 2 episodes of Farscape last night thanks to Bizarre Podcast: Space Puppets painting a very compelling picture of the show, and so far it's quite enjoyable.

My favourite part is all of the barely concealed Australian accents that slip through. Right near the end of the second episode in the last shot on the planet they were on I heard a whipbird call!

The puppetry is delightful. The aliens feel like a solid middle ground between Star Trek's aliens that are just guys but in space, and Star Wars' which are guys in space but weird and vaguely threatening, and they get to be a little creepy and weird in their behaviours as a treat. The first episode has a downright terrifying spider monster for one scene, this massive horrifying puppet that doesn't do anything but screech and chitter as it barters over trinkets and it kicks dick.

Also the music is a fucking nightmare. It's either generically late 90's early 2000's or it's a feverish mess of elements that could work but have been mashed together so badly they give me anxiety and make me laugh all at once.

So far, great show and I'm gonna keep watching and relisten to the early episodes of Space Puppets as I catch up with them in the show. I'm looking forward to more awkward Aussie actors pretending they're not, and the sights and sounds of Australia's environment and birdlife. I'll sell one of my fingers if I never hear a kookaburra's laugh used in the background for an exotic alien jungle, this is the one show that actually has an excuse to do so.
