where'd y'all go to get laser hair removal / electrolysis? what places gave you the best experience? have you been able to get any procedures covered by insurance (specifically medicaid)? are there places with good reputations? are there places with really bad reputations? it's impossible to find anything on the internet anymore and facebook groups are hydrochloric acid for the human psyche, so i am turning to YOU

i started facial laser for a few months back in 2018-19, but fell off because it hurt so damn much and i ran out of money anyway. that was in oklahoma where they were very firmly against local anesthesia, but it looks like places here in seattle are plenty happy to charge you extra for the privilege of not having to directly feel the sensation of your hair getting cooked in your face multiple times a second. luckily i'm a prime candidate for laser since my hair is dark and coarse, so i will probably stick to that rather than the far more expensive option of electrolysis, at least until all that's left are a few stubborn whiskers instead of My Whole Entire Facial Zone

i've tried to be okay with it but i think the shadow is contributing to my agoraphobic hermitage as a trans woman who has yet to be gendered correctly by a single stranger (except one time by the self-proclaimed King of Scotland while waiting at a bus stop). i'm also considering laser on my chest and torso, something i was pretty sure i didn't want since it'd thinned significantly with hrt and liberal use of an epilator... which is now broken, despite only being a couple years old. faced with the prospect of buying Another One (and this would be my third of this model, fourth overall) for upwards of $80, it occurred to me that at this point i'm probably better off just biting the financial bullet and actually getting some things Done To Me in the medical sense. it's scary and intimidating, partly because of the pain, but also the time and the cost. my healthcare clinic told me the best place to go with insurance is in olympia, which is uh... a little tough for me, as someone who doesn't have a car. i'd honestly prefer getting it done a bit closer to home, you know?

i don't want bottom surgery, nor do i want to be rid of my pubic hair (one of a couple reasons i don't want bottom surgery, in fact), so that's one easy insurance-coverable option out the window lmao

if you have any info or suggestions or links to existing resources, please leave them in the comments of this post. i am a creature of suspended inertia and i'm sick of having given up on my transition. thank you for your time and your help

in reply to @sarahzedig's post:

i got some genital electrolysis done at queen anne medical, they're pretty great. i was able to get it covered by medicaid too, but i needed to do the whole three doctor's notes/climb the sacred mountain/navigate the health labyrinth/defeat minotaur quest to get insurance to pay for it.

i and my partner went to QAMA and i would personally not recommend them unless they happen to take your insurance because everybody running things behind the scenes have very little empathy (mostly due to them getting burned by insurance several times i think?)

but the people actually doing laser there tend to be competent, and they’re one of the few laser places that knows how to bill insurance
