lol I was already going to write some stuff about From but this definitely is part of why I just belted out 2400 words about how I'd restructure the pilot to be, like, way less limp than it is
now I just gotta figure out how to channel this energy more regularly cause god DAMN it'd be nice to be able to just write an article's worth of text in an hour and a half at will :I
in just 10 episodes From was already way more frustrating than Lost got in 3 seasons
it has such a reddit brained understanding of "mysteries" as not a bunch of motivators for character drama but instead motivators for people online to be Satisfied By when The Reveal happens, and I really don't think that The Reveal is gonna satisfy me particularly lol
It also has a very, like, psychologically illiterate understanding of character drama. Where character drama is "a person yelling at another person" as opposed to like, characters having conflicting goals or needs stemming from coherent motivations.
yeah like I really love Donna and Boyd and their dynamic in theory, in large part because of how much Elizabeth Saunders and Harold Perrineau bring to those roles, but man the show is just so uninterested in actually laying out what the difference is between the town and colony house ideologically or even just personally between the two characters. there's something there but it just never quite... solidifies
