having literally changed my workflow for comics to just be physical only because Krita lacks a basic print function, I gotta say I do sympathize with the philosophical position of FOSS devs but I also think they're essentially larping as developers.

alas, we cant all be gimp, which apparently does everything. but who tf wants to read online guides to find where that common function got placed among all the niche shit? im not being sarcastic, this a genuine complaint, "just spend an hour reading a boring guide on some forum that totally still exists" is not a sustainable solution for someone who does art for fun
most artists i know just use multiple applications to complete a project anyway. its just a pain in the ass to figure out what does the specific thing you need to do without...having fucking been trained by someone who does comics/animation as a job.
I use a lot of foss programs for my job but I cannot in a million years imagine using gimp in any sort of professional capacity. like I have my deep frustrations with krita but every time I've tried to use gimp it's just been a nightmare, and it has the cool foss problem of bad software being stapled to a grotesquely hostile and cultish community.
