oh christ I just booted up Atom to find that it's being sunsetted in a literal month because Microsoft bought Github and deliberately starved Atom of resources so people would stop using it and they could just murder it.

I'm so tired and angry and sad and I hate Tech more than I can really express with words, at least legally.

I know rationally the reason every tech company operates this way is because that's just, how capitalism works? like, this is some of the most basic marxist shit here? but it's still so god damn infuriating to watch it happen over and over and over and over, with microsoft and apple and google and facebook and so on.

people keep saying vehemently that the biden admin's picks for antitrust are good, they just need time to work, strong robust antitrust action is riiiight around the corner, it's happening soon trust us...

To be fair, Atom never worked right for me after the move to electron 2.0, which I think predated MS buying github (I feel like this is incorrect)

I had to install vscode the other day and it was a sad day indeed. To be fair, I also primarily used Atom as a literal text editor for notes.

i had this exact feeling the other day. had no idea it was getting decommissioned. atom is very comfortable to me and i just don't trust vscode even if like they're owned by the same people 😔

yeah, a friend has recommended Sublime Text to me and I'll probably give that a try, but I don't really feel like rewarding microsoft for their shitty behavior here by using another of their products frankly.
