people are offering many elaborate theories and critical frameworks to discuss Forspoken and Velma and I am simply floating serenely above it all, at one with gnosis:
comedy... is all bad.
I don't know what you would call this other than cringe. the attitude of this writing style is cringing. it's cowardly. it takes on an affect of sneering superiority and aloof metatextuality because these writers are terrified to their very core of being laughed at. Velma is an astonishingly neurotic show, spilling all of the showrunner's petty twitter grievances on screen and inventing tropes to be mad at (either for things that haven't been true of genre fiction since the fucking 90s or "shows" that as far as I can tell exist completely in the author's diseased mind) in a way that fails to conceal a deep paranoia that someone might accuse her of, like, being INTO this sort of thing haha god can you IMAGINE?
Forspoken is the same shit, every idiotic quip in every stupid Marvel show about how ha ha wouldn't it be CRAZY if we wore costumes like in the COMICS? is the same shit, all of this shit is unbelievably, unavoidably cringe.
literally, weird furry porn is infinitely more valuable to society as an artistic endeavor than these products and I genuinely do, completely sincerely, feel that everyone trying to have a nuanced take about this stuff instead of writing about whether or not Sinkdog's faucet is an analogue to her dick is wasting time.
