my friends have gotten me into doctor who AND columbo at the same time, right as pokerface is coming out, and consequently I'm gaining an almost obsessive appreciation of self contained episode length storytelling, a nearly lost art form

I’ve been showing columbo to some friends for the past year and a bit and its really incredible how much tv sucks now in comparison
no one writes episodes anymore!
like even in a longer form work it's amazing how much a difference it makes that say Station 11 has really obviously delineated, single idea episodes compared to a LOT of streaming era stuff that's just "one long movie" (i.e. just sort of a blob of Stuff Happening)
been feeling nostalgic lately for the act beats imposed by network mandated commercial breaks. not the commercials themselves, god no, just the structure.
we were trying to work out the other day if Pokerface actually airs on a real station with commercials or if Johnson is just putting commercial break cuts into the show because he thinks it structures things better
I think it might be the latter and honestly it works
I googled some of the proper nouns in your reply and now I have to figure out who in the extended polycule has a peacock subscription
