We rightfully give boomers a lot of shit, but the one thing their generation got right was crazy hi-fi systems. Look at that shit. Cool as hell. Imagine getting home from work and blasting your Peter Gabriel tapes on this.
Now in 2024 your average consumer options are:
- bluetooth headphones
- plastic orb that spies on you
The fuck man. bring these back
nothing feels better to the brain then fiddling a bunch of big heavy knobs and buttons and getting fuzzy warm light and sound blasting out the exact way you want it
I own a laserdisc player and its just fun to have! Its got a huge heavy loud disc tray and get hot just sitting there turned on. Its awesome and useless
I don't have a practiced enough ear to really discern the difference in audio quality, I just like the ritual of it all. There's something about all the extra effort that gives the music more gravitas, more weight and importance. It's harder to mindlessly skip through songs, I have to sit and listen to it all the way through, in the order the artist intended. It turns listening to music into an activity instead of a background noise. It purposely slows me down, slows down time.
There's no real quantitative benefit or any scientific studies that make playing vinyls "the best option", it just feels better in a way my dumb monkey brain likes.
