• They/Them

A real "we've got a nephew" of graphic design and illustration, mental illness held at bay by a very nice vegetable garden and cats.

Lapsed printmaker, you should ask me about it and I'll be very weird

Started watching Hands Off Eizouken! with my partner tonight, and she was very correct that I would like it. Just two episodes in and I'm in love with how much care and joy the show was made, from the characters, the design, colors, and of course, animation.

It's also a very stark reminder of the pure joy and excitement that comes from creating things, to imagining the possibilities. I had forgotten that feeling of having your whole body enthusiastic about making something, to be overflowing with ideas and energy. Ii didn't realize until now that I haven't felt that for many years now, maybe not since college. No wonder I'm starving

They could have made a very generic anime school in a generic city and be fine, but they didn't! The floors are a lovely green gray with stenciled letters "DON'T RUN". The teacher's office is wide and open, soft blues with pops of orange and red. It's set design is so thoughtful, it's made me starkly aware that I just don't pay attention to much set design in anime, because a lot of the time it doesn't matter.
