they are literal wooden paddles, often with words like “YAOI,” “SEME” (apparently Japanese for “dom”), or “UKE” (similarly, “sub”)

yaoi fangirls would run around threatening to and/or actually paddling people’s asses with these (the idea theoretically being that if you hit someone bare-assed hard enough, you’d “brand” then with the impression)

since people had no chill and did this to people they didn’t know with no warning, the paddles were banned from every convention
