I feel like we're on the cusp of a new way of using the internet but I can't explain what that that will look like. Twitter and Facebook simultaneously hemorrhaging cash after being The Social Media for over a decade was long overdue.
Both.... i wanna use the word albatross but i don't know if that's the right word
hoisting themselves on their own respecctive petards, as their owners (new and prior) blow their unknowable wealth on stupid vanity
TBH, algorithmic content delivery was a mistake from day one - but still, yeah, I feel that. It's not the sole reason why things online have gotten as bad as they have by a mile (that distinction goes to the entire political landscape post-9/11 I feel; the Tea Party sure didn't need algorithmic radicalization on Facebook for instance), but having a paperclip maximizer for engagement and ad exposure in the middle of things sure as hell didn't help turn us away from people completely breaching from reality to get stuck in conspiracy theory central 24/7.
The internet is dead, long live the internet.
