inspired by @chirasul’s post here’s a challenge for anyone who wants to partake and be a little less of a lurker on this website and more of an engaged participant! it’s nice to build rapport with the people who share this internet time with and doing so happens more in the comments than anywhere else!

here’s the challenge at least once a day leave these three types of comments

  • compliment someone’s art/craft and tell them what you like about it (ex: woah pretty colors! look at those lines! love this composition!)
  • comment on someone’s personal post wishing them well or telling them they got this or celebrating them somehow (whatever makes sense for the context) (ex: “that sounds rough i hope you have some ease soon” “congrats on this that’s rad!”)
  • if someone educates you with a post they made, show appreciation for that new knowledge and maybe ask a follow up question if it seems like they might have more to share (ex: “I’d never heard about this before, what does that one part mean?” “this is new to me, thanks for talking about it, it helps me see things a little differently, do you have any more thoughts as it pertains to…”)

so so many people are dealing with social isolation and anxiety and loneliness! it can really be impactful to extend this little effort towards one another that’s just like hey i acknowledge your words and presence here and i value it enough to leave you some of my words and presence in exchange! it might change your experience of the site, who knows!

in reply to @julez's post:

I've been trying to make an effort too comment on every piece of art I share, but I really should also comment more on other things as well! I think being from Tumblr I tend to assume in-tag comments are sufficient but I know OP can't see them easily here. might as well be up front about them!

thanks! it’s really just a plainly laid out script of some of the ways i already act on this website but thought “hey this might not be intuitive to lots of people and i think people might be struggling to find ways to feel like their presence here is acknowledged or acknowledge others”

for me this site feels a lot better because of the ways i have built rapport with mutuals
