The appeal of free kriegspiel as “just use the rules of the fiction to adjudicate most of the stuff” is certainly attractive. I’m still a little suspicious that assigning that world-interpretation only into GM ruling is the go-to, because then we’re only playing the GM’s interpretation of that world. Nonetheless, FKR rests in my mind like a book on a shelf, waiting for the moment where I can ask “are the rules of this world not gamified to the point where it can be played through with rulings?”
