I didn't know anything besides like, the big meme reveal that was everywhere online from 2006-2010, what the final boss looked like, and that you went on a date with a party member at the golden saucer (this meant fucking nothing to me when it was told to me).
To speak generally, this game really surprised me with it's sidequests. I think this is the first rpg I've played where I actually really enjoyed going after sidequests. My frame of reference has been like, Bioware RPGs and there, sidequests are like this little sidestory you sit through to flesh out the world and set up how your character feels about it. Maybe you get some loot that's stronger with one class than another, so if it's not for you then you foist it onto a party member.
In FF7, a sidequest is a task that once completed gives you a superweapon. S+.
Also I haven't played the remakes but they're on my list. Right now I'm bouncing around a Minecraft Realm with friends, resuming Signalis (it's getting very scary now) and then I'll be settling into Dragon's Dogma 2.
Tifa. There's a point in the game where Aeris just seems more sisterly.
