it's good (phew!)

I nearly checked out of destiny after lightfall. final shape makes it all work with characters that count, stakes that are decipherable, and super fun missions that respect the player's ability to figure things out.

I love all the new baddies they've built for this campaign - each of them mixes up the battlefield in a new, exciting way. the levels are gorgeous and are fun to explore. building old, familiar, nostalgic geometry out of the dreamlogic of the traveler's light is real smart. I barely played destiny 1 and I still gasped when I saw a couple of these places.

keith david steps into zavala's role admirably. the cayde stuff works, when it could have either been too jokey or too gushy. but no, he's here and he's good, and his banter with crow is a delight.

some of the story beats are ... a little neat? maybe too simple? a little too "A therefore B" but I'm willing to forgive it given the task it has in front of it.

suffice to say, there's never been a better time to play destiny

agree! my fireteam played through a good chunk of it yesterday evening and have been having a lot of fun, we are nonstop pointing out parts of or otherwise commenting on the environments.
