I passed this article around to friends (because it rocks), and one of them noted that the using a quinceañera as you pointed out might be even better because the "kids to adults" aspect offers a lot of opportunity to deal with with culture shock and tutorializing.
But no matter what, great job with this! I think everyone I know who read it immediately went "I'm doing this".
