JNFR set down her controller, stretched her arms in an exaggerated motion, and pretended to yawn.
"Well, my battery's almost dead, I'm gonna go charge, I'll see you guys in the morning."
Ru-B took her focus from the tv in front of them to JNFR, controller still in hand.
"Huh? We can talk to you while you charge, your tether's just in the corner over there."
She set the controller down for a moment to pick JNFR up, and set her on the floor.
"We need to get that ramp..." JNFR mumbled as Ru-B released her grip on her. "Anyways, normally, yeah, but my short-term memory is getting kinda full, I need to power down for a while and dump into long term. You guys know how it is"
Ru-B and Orange looked at each other in confusion, then back to JNFR.
"... What are you talking about?" Ru-B asked
"Yeah, you differentiate between short and long term memory?"
JNFR looked at the two of them like a kid who just learnt Santa wasn't real. She paused, collected herself, and spoke
"You guys dont... I have two hard drives, a really fast SSD for short term memory and a bigger, slower one for long term. When short term gets full, I need to go into standby to dump everything important into long term and delete the rest. You... you don't do that?" Ru-B shook her head.
"I just have a big array of like, 4 drives in me that are synced for redundancy."
"And I just have 1 drive" Orange added. "What... happens if you don't dump short term?"
"I feel..." JNFR put a hand to her 'chin', thinking. "Foggy. Remembering takes longer, thinking takes longer, I feel like I'm running a few seconds behind reality. It's fucking frustrating, and I need to do it like once every 3 days, it's... ugh. I can't believe you guys DON'T need to do it."
Ru-B and Orange looked at each other again, nervous.
"Yeah, that sounds... rough, sorry Jen. I guess our memory systems are just more..."
"Modern." JNFR grumbled, buying her monitor in the plush armrest of the sofa. "I'd sure be nice to not be fucking obsolete."
"JNFR, you're not-" Orange protested, but Ru-B held up a hand.
"She is. Don't patronize her."
"I am!" JNFR exclaimed, throwing her arms up. "They haven't made one of me in like, 3 years! Ru-B still gets software updates, and they hand build new parts for you, OJ. Why do you think I want to get out of this... fucking BOX so bad??"
JNFR pounded her chest, the heart-shaped LED in the center flickering.
"Woah, hey, calm down-" Ru-B said, gently holding JNFR by the shoulders. "I'm sure you'll feel better on a full battery, and a clear cache, right?"
JNFR let out a bit-crunched sigh, her posture slumping.
"Yeah, probably, just... tired, y'know. I'll see you guys in the morning"
With that, she turned around and drove into the corner of the room, picking up a cable from the ground and plugging it into a port on her back. She closed her eyes, and her screen went dark as she powered down.
"... Poor kid." Ru-B mumbled, after she was sure JNFR was off.
