A while back I bought a Framework 13 laptop. I have a perfectly good tower pc running Windows, and my reasoning at the time was a few factors.

  • My PC had a massive case and tiny parts, and generally felt way overkill for the stuff I did. I'm not a gamer, and rarely (see: not never) play complex 3d games that really demanded my dedicated gpu.
  • I'm kind of a shut in sometimes, I feel, and being able to take my computer with me seemed like a great excuse to get out more.
  • I really like Framework as a company, and wanted to support their vision.

Maybe an odd question, but any advice on making Linux more... 'comfortable'? Some part of me still feels a little alienated using it

Switching to Gnome and holy shit I think XFCE was a big part of it.

My hope was to be able to use my Framework 13 as my only computer - ease my files off my main machine onto it and eventually sell the old pc outright. Unfortunately, Linux aside, this thing isn't as powerful as my old machine. Which, y'know, makes sense comparing a tower with a GPU to a laptop.

I don't consider myself a gamer, but I play games occasionally and was hoping this thing could keep up with my modest gaming load. Unfortunately, my small sample of 3d games I tend to play with friends seemed to strain it. I considered getting an eGPU enclosure or upgrading the mainboard, but realistically I'm just being silly at that point. I have a perfectly fine tower, I'll probably just switch back to that and just keep the FW as a device for chilling on the couch or going out and about.
