Do any of the species (especially the food-based ones) ever get existential over seeing examples of non-sentient versions of themselves? Like, does Jelena ever see a package of gummy worms at a convenience store and take a moment to contemplate her existence?

sometimes, tho in the example you described that wouldnt really happen. in the case of food people theres some certain foods that are either created entirely based on their respective food people species, or they just dont exist as foods, at least not in the regions those species exist in. heck, some of them are based on actual animals, like gummy worms are no doubt an actual species in universe.
generally theres a lot of existentialism over where all these crazy fucked up anthro species came from, but it hardly comes up from comparing food people to their respective foods.
