Just found a Reddit thread saying you could only think Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 (released February 2000) is better than WWF No Mercy (released November 2000) because of nostalgia. "Newer = better" taken to its logical extreme. It's okay to prefer an older video game I promise

Really weird problem with my PS2 Slim (70000 series) - it won't read discs... unless I take it apart and manually hold down the two "lid closed" buttons, then turn it on with a disc on the spindle. Then it reads discs perfectly. What?

I started following this site a few days ago on my RSS feed, it documents new games that are being released for older systems. I'm realizing I enjoy "retro" gaming but I also do want new experiences beyond just playing the classics and hidden gems so this was a cool site to find:

I feel that viral-outrage-generating opinions like "The N64 had a weak library" can be dismissed for three reasons:

1. it reveals the author's complete ignorance of Sturgeon's Law
2. the author is projecting themselves into a past where the N64 is one of the current consoles and they or their family has enough money and time to buy and play all of the games for it
3. (somewhat related to point 1) The good games on retro consoles can be emulated on your computer - at this point they are just "games"

The Sturgeon's Law point is most pertinent to me, it's like walking into an actual library and saying we should close it down because 99% of the books aren't considered absolute classics
