i think people are avoiding it because it's run by crypto techbro investor types, including jack dorsey, and it has really bad views on content moderation
I know but like, "huge nerds adjacent to my circles" also unfortunately includes crypto dorks and people who don't understand the reason why you need content moderation
oh that's fair actually. then idk! maybe because it has that sweet venture capital backing and a single main site, most people think it's not worth spinning up their own instance?
my understanding is that the protocol is still being finalized and bluesky does not yet have federation, although it's in the works. they have a blog post where they talk about a "sandbox environment" for developers, but afaict that's yet to be released and i haven't seen a public timeline given for their federation rollout in general.
