do you do gamedev for a living? if not, may i ask what you do other than gamedev to make ends meet?

yep, my games are my livelihood! i used to work for a studio as my main income, but i've been working as a solo developer for the past two and a half years. it's nice to have freedom, but it's also a lot of pressure since it's hard not to be in work mode all the time.

i'm trying to rest more often and mostly work on things i think are fun, to try to avoid burnout. i was really burnt out for the first half of this year, and i feel like i only started to recover last month. i'm doing well right now, although i have a lot of rl stuff going on in the background.

i'm really lucky to have the flexibility of not needing to release a game every month or so to make ends meet, like how it was before i got my first job. it took almost 10 years to get to that point. because of that experience, i think everyone should keep their day job until it stops making sense to... i know how hard it is to juggle personal dev and a day job though. it's just better to choose financial stability when you're starting out, imo, otherwise i think it gets too stressful too quickly. it's really hard to make a good game when you're that stressed out.
