Setsune

Virtual Raccoon

Ramblings of a Raccoon. Fragments of Fuzzy Thoughts. Game Development stuff: @SetsuneDev working on @Cuddle Kobold!

Are you like me, and got a Quest for the holidays but haven't set it up yet? Then hold your horses (and if you were already holding horses, continue to do so), because if you haven't done the referral program for it, you're actually leaving free credit on the table. (Right now $60 USD, or your region's equivalent, for Quest 3, or $30 for Quest 2 or Pro.)

I do get a kickback from this in that I also get credit, but not at any increased cost to you. You are literally just going, "Yep, Setsune told me this VR was sweet stuff," and Meta goes, "Lovely to hear. Here's your $60 / 30 for telling me that."

Ready to start? The process is a little different depending on whether you've hooked your account to a Meta headset before.

  1. If you've never attached a Meta account to a Meta Quest before, then this is super easy! Follow this link, and accept the referral. If you need to, sign up for a new Meta account (which you should anyway, and you don't have to connect it to Facebook if you don't want to, just use an e-mail address.)

Once it gives you the OK, just set up your headset with the same account you made, and you're done! You'll find the credit in your Store Wallet very quickly.

  1. If you've attached your Meta account to a headset before (the referral link above will kick up a vague error), you can still wiggle around it for your free Store credit. Instructions after the Read More.

  • Make a new Meta account at https://auth.meta.com/ . Just open up in a Private Browser window, use a secondary e-mail address, and write the info down.
  • Open https://www.meta.com/referrals/link/SetsuneW and accept the referral like above. Should work this time, barring regional restrictions.
  • Set up the Quest using the new Meta account. If this is a Quest 3, Do not accept the Asgard's Wrath 2 promotion unless you don't mind it being tied to the new account. (You can still Share your Library and as long as the account is also on your device, you can play it on your main.) Otherwise there's a step later regarding AG2.
  • You now have the promotional credit, all things going well! But it's stuck on a different account, right?
  • Friend your old account, and gift it games from the new account using the promo credit.
  • Once you're done using up the promo credit, if you want to make your old account the headset "Owner", you can Delete Device Data from https://secure.oculus.com/my/devices/ , and set it back up with your old account. If you did not accept it previously, the Asgard's Wrath 2 offer should be in your notifications, since the promotion is tied to the unique Headset ID. I've tested this myself and it works, but if you weren't prompted for it while logged in and doing the gift swap, you might want to go to the game's page and see if it shows there.
  • Headset is now Owned by old account, with $60 / 30 of additional free VR games and apps. :eggbug-relieved:

There may be some regional restrictions on this Referral program (probably the countries where it exists), but I can tell you it does work cross-region to an extent, and simply converts the value over to that region's promotional amount. For example, I did this process myself with a Canadian person setting up my Quest 3, and it showed up in my Wallet just fine.

Kind of wish I'd thought to post about this before, you know, everyone unwrapped their Christmas Quests. But it's out there if you're a little late like me. It really is just free money for their store.
