Are you like me, and got a Quest for the holidays but haven't set it up yet? Then hold your horses (and if you were already holding horses, continue to do so), because if you haven't done the referral program for it, you're actually leaving free credit on the table. (Right now $60 USD, or your region's equivalent, for Quest 3, or $30 for Quest 2 or Pro.)

I do get a kickback from this in that I also get credit, but not at any increased cost to you. You are literally just going, "Yep, Setsune told me this VR was sweet stuff," and Meta goes, "Lovely to hear. Here's your $60 / 30 for telling me that."

Ready to start? The process is a little different depending on whether you've hooked your account to a Meta headset before.

  1. If you've never attached a Meta account to a Meta Quest before, then this is super easy! Follow this link, and accept the referral. If you need to, sign up for a new Meta account (which you should anyway, and you don't have to connect it to Facebook if you don't want to, just use an e-mail address.)

Once it gives you the OK, just set up your headset with the same account you made, and you're done! You'll find the credit in your Store Wallet very quickly.

  1. If you've attached your Meta account to a headset before (the referral link above will kick up a vague error), you can still wiggle around it for your free Store credit. Instructions after the Read More.

Between posting here and on Reddit, had two people take me up on the referral. Once I realized I had to Claim it in the app as a referrer (weird), I found myself with $120 additional store credit! That was a wonderful surprise. The Holiday sale is over now, but the doubled referral program is still going until midnight of January 7th, so if you're getting a new Quest 3 you haven't set up, you can get $60 in store credit by using this link:

It also works for Quest 2 and Pro, which nets you $30 store credit. Once the promo is over I think it drops to 30/15.

If the referral errors when you accepted it, it might be because you tied your Meta account to a headset previously. There's a way to sidestep this, without permanently tying your headset to an alternate account, but still getting the credits. Just see above. I personally confirmed you can wait to redeem your offers like Asgard's Wrath 2 until you're done and it should not erase them, since they're tied to the headset's hardware ID.

On a side note, I 100%ed What the Bat? (25% off link) and was really happy with it. Comedy puzzle game where your hands are baseball bats, trying to solve strange problems, and when you think you've got it figured out the game throws a curveball at you. (Hah, bat joke.) Keeps it fresh. It does some clever things with actions you may perform I won't spoil but appreciated seeing the effects of. I also really appreciated that pride flags and other inclusive elements start showing up as you play, even some ones you may not initially catch. I was fully content with the amount I paid, ready for the game to comfortably end, only to reach a scene promising more content in future updates. Heartily recommend What the Bat?!
