waking up in a cold sweat from a nightmare where id software was founded by british bedroom developers instead of american ones. all the monsters in doom were pairs of boots or lipsticks or rats that rapidly moved back and forth and killed you in one hit. soundtrack was all public domain circus music and marches

Finally, the one thing more disorienting than CyberDillo: CyberDillo with Major Minor's Majestic March's soundtrack.
Early versions (including the one I bought!) of Jet Set Willy played "If I Were A Rich Man", and I guess they forgot that it's still in copyright, and they got "politely asked" for £36k and were like... ooops! And had to change it to Hall Of The Mountain King.
that's incredible - there are gobs of ZX and C64 games that use music that were definitely still in copyright. i simply assumed nobody was paying attention
