They announced a new Marathon, but it's actually a Tarkov. Anyway, this means people are interested in playing the old Marathons, and here's how to do that.
- Legally download them for free, funnily enough. They have a modern source port packed in so you won't need a PowerMac™ from 1994, but you'll wanna make a few tweaks to the settings.
- Set the "Mouse Feel" in control settings to "Modern" if it isn't already. Otherwise mouselook is gonna feel really, really bad with uneven horizontal and vertical sensitivities.
- Enable "FOV Override" in graphics settings and set the FOV to something sane (Mine is set to "90"). The defaults will give you motion sickness.
- Grab some mods! These are typically packed up as standalone games nowadays. I personally recommend Apotheosis X, which looks like a million bucks.
- Remember that the level design in the first Marathon kinda sucks and if you get stuck or bored you can just read the rest of the story on The Marathon Story Page and skip to the second game. Nobody will judge you for not wanting to inflict Colony Ship For Sale Cheap upon yourself.
