"backwards long jump" works in real life but unfortunately nobody who has tried it has had the athletic skills and physique necessary and they've all died.

This makes sense. Mario has legs strong enough to elevate him multiples of his own height by jumping, and a lasagna-powered rump.

I feel like a cursory look at the other feats of strength Mario performs in various games easily bears that out 😆
yet he dies ever-so-swiftly to the nibble of a goomba. there is a great deal of contradictory information in the games. the mysteries of mario have yet to be solved
goombas clearly have some sort of powerful, fast-acting paralytic venom
i once jumped up and hit my head on the bottom of a cupboard as a child, and i needed stitches. so if mario's working on bricks regularly then he's got me beat, cranially speaking
well he uses his fist to break the brick blocks but yeah i see your point
