it's so funny that Gathering of Developers never died if you think about it. yeah, the co-founder tragically passed away and the name was bought by Take-Two and then immediately destroyed, but Mike Wilson left. GOD lived on in Gamecock, and then Gamecock was a fuckin disaster because Southpeak was a shitshow of a publisher. though them rushing Ken Levine at the 07 game awards is extremely funny now. then Mike started Devolver Digital as an indie label and it's been smooth sailing ever since.
this entire thing is brought on by someone asking in the resto project dev discord about the GOD Games E3 2000 'Promised Lot', which was GOD's booth because they were never able to get into the LACC. you know who else was never able to get into the LACC and had to do their schtick in the parking lot? Gamecock. and Devolver never even bothered with the parking lot! they just embraced the Posting Ways.
like look at this:
and this:
and honestly, the only difference is that Mike Wilson watched a lot of tim & eric in between these. the vibe is so similar. 'fuck those guys, we're the real punks!'
idk, just interesting to think about! game dev/pub history!
