ya. I haven't turned this pithy thought into like a whole philosophy but it does feel like the original point of social media was to turn Social Energy (byproduct of living as a social creature) into Media Energy (commodities that can participate in a Market and be translated into Investor Value) and that's actually worked more or less in a lot of places
I have specific opinions on this but I feel those opinions might make people angry, and therefore I will stay quiet but nod agreeingly.
the fact that this is my take is not hilariously lost on me.

That's why everyone talks about "building your brand" instead of "existing in a shared social space."
