bluesky has an algorithmic timeline that currently shows you anything that has received 12+ likes and that's what they banned porn (or any pictures of ass, dick or boobies) from. they're saying it's because when you start an account that's the first thing you see. they haven't banned porn.

this isn't a defense of that or anything, it's just cohost is doing a real rumor mill with this shit and it's annoying the shit out of me

in reply to @nora's post:

the weird thing is like, that's kind of plainly apparent just from the screenshot going around?

and as loath as i am to defend it, "porn is allowed but it's not something we want on this particular website's front page" is. well. i don't even know if "reasonable" is the right word but it's so entirely ordinary that it seems difficult to be bothered by it

in what way? i’m fine with having silverware in my apartment, fine enough that i’d have my silverware slider turned up fairly high. doesn’t mean i wanna find forks in my sock drawer.

in this analogy once you've requested forks in your house wouldn't the sock drawer be an alt account or a SFW mode or some other discrete space you've designated as not for forking

i have accidentally contributed to this! and honestly, i did not expect a dumb post like mine with an oversimplification to reach more than a few people. edited the post with some context, i think we should be hating it for valid reason and not half-truths, 100% agree
