please consider if you're doing this dance before calling anything "the new (insert overbloated dead social media app here)"

there's enshittification if you really must, and then there's stepping on the rakes to see if they still swing. do not trust any one platform to be It for more than a couple years at best

co-host is lovely, but the things that make it lovely are communal and decisions which could change, as too is everything humans do. the consequences of permanency we leave behind are not synonymous with the platforms themselves being permanent.

i have been looking into how best to get my writing on a platform that won't implode within the next 6 business months, and doesn't require a subscription or fee of any sort for the reader to enjoy. i use 12 ft ladder to bypass paywalls, so i can't justify paywalling my work

i decided co-host is the best place to do that, so check my posts under #writeup if you want to see my articles and work. anyways

substack was an option i considered for a couple days there. until i uh. looked into it more

so, other than the first blush pretty blatantly bad shit that stopped me from signing up, in addition to being greeted by

Google landing page for Substack, reading: "Substack, a new economic engine for culture."

i don't want a new economic engine for culture. i really don't think that is good for society.

when first checking the platform, all combined, it was easily enough to ward me off. like desperately trying to copy twitter, a platform i am actively in favor of burning down and moving on from, and generally being pretty libertarian leaning overall, my conclusion is i wouldn't blame someone for using it to get paid for writing

but uh. i am morally opposed to everything it stands for. so i'm happy to keep making chosts!
