so you know how most crewed pod-ish spacecraft land in the ocean and we fish em out with boats or sometimes helicopters to put them on boats
soyuz lands on land in the russian wilderness. so they've got a handful of these fuckers meant to go out into the middle of nowhere and bring the cosmonauts and their craft back.
also, i believe the soviet equivalent to the Corona spy satellite film return bucket was based on the Vostok crew module (like Gagarin's), so... probably? used for that too.
also i love how everything space gets stickerbombed by its crews
