work continues on game rec pdf. have switched to indesign and after (sorta) getting to a UI that is still deeply alien to me, it's definitely gonna speed the whole workflow up. here's the freshest taste of the project, Road Trip Adventure rules
now playing: Cosmo Speed (Choro Q Wonderful!)
i heard something once about how Road Trip is a fairly poor racing game and an extremely true driving game and I love that description of it. long live the CaRPG.
the recommendation above is also really on point for what I love about Choro Q CaRPGs, in how they are "what if just an RPG but everyone was a car". like there are barely any contrived references to car parts as body analogues it's just like. yeah
the other thing that I love about Choro Q is that especially the Barnhouse Effect developed games have NPC names that are just total vibes of keyboard smashes. gedluna. charlanki. zeltaf. nyakki.
this year I expanded beyond what I knew of the Choro Q CaRPGs (HG2 and HG4, the ones released in the states) to enjoy some more in the genre (HG3, Works, and Wonderful - in Works you do construction work, get gym badges, and fight a demon lord!) and they're all fantastic. it's really interesting to feel the DNA of each developer in their works, as half of these are E-Game and half are Barnhouse Effect.
not to mention the "less RPG" Choro Q games - HG1 (pure racer, PS2), Perfect (turn-based racer that plays like a pool game, also an RPG, GBC), and Shin Combat (tank battler with a 3 hour campaign, PS2) - that I tried this year. there's just so much out there!
anyway does anyone want to watch cirno's perfect match class
