daily knowledge: the "fox" in firefox's name is actually a panda. specifically, a red panda, since the name "firefox" was taken from a common nickname for the animal. unfortunately, the species is currently endanged.

While red pandas are great and may have inspired the name when changing from Firebird, the logo clearly depicts a red fox and always has. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firefox_logo
technically correct so i edited the post to say "firefox's name" instead of logo
