Treating it like customer service software and you have to fill in the "Target" and "Location" fields as if you're taking down a name and address.
Friend and I have been joking about a magic system that everyone treats like programming. Two main characters are a by the book mage obsessed with making efficient and beautiful incantations and a self taught dumbass that just wants results. They constantly figure out new things to try from each other.
"I expanded the radius of this fireball spell by optimizing mana consumption relative to the output of energy, thereby allowing the desired larger radius. The spell circle also uses less runes, allowing the new spell to be expanded and tweaked in myriad ways!"
"I uhhhhhhhhh spun a wall of fire real fast."
