With my major deadlines dealt with for the time being, I am faced with filing my income tax today, and while that is important, I am procrastinating by doing this instead. I don't wanna hear anyone tell me this is a bad idea because 1. I know and 2. I don't make enough money for either me or the government to really care that much. Let's get into it.
Tiger illustration for Far Distant by A Liang Chan
I'm starting this one off with a plug for a crowdfunding campaign I would like to see succeed. A Liang Chan (on here @fungi) is an incredibly talented illustrator whose work you may recognize from things like World Ending Game by Everest Pipkin. A's work rides a line between editorial illustrations and stylized fantasy in a way I have always admired and I can't wait to see what it looks like when they are able to make a full 50 page comic. This piece is so wondefully evocative and moody. I love the use of noise texture and the eerie twisting of the tiger's body over this machine.
Papercraft dioramas by Itimaru1031
I love these dioramas for their well selected palettes, the incredible attention to detail and texture on the large fish, and the overall sense of flow and movement each one creates. It's so cool to see someone doing this with papercraft.
Travelling Meowl Tamer design sheet by pikat
Constantly humbled by how good some people are in their learning stage. This character design conceit is so clever. The nest/scarf is bold, breaks the silhouette but is instantly readable. Its a great character design for how easy it is to parse what is happening here, not to even mention its just very well drawn and cute.
A touch of Wild Magic by Mike Pape
A really cleverly put together composition with excellent use of contrast and this wonderful flow where the twisting shards of the shattered mirror all lead back to the point of contact of the hand. The artist rendered both figures in their entirety to create this piece, and then masked out the segments of the shards. Cleverly he offset the two figures to get this nice shattered state, where you get to see large sections of both faces to see the shift in body language and overall vibe.
Thirty Animals by Natee Himmapaan
I could gush all fucking day about Natee's work, for fucking real. This is a rearrangement of a small portrait series they did a while back. When I say small, I goddamn mean it. Each of these is one square inch. The technical mastery and gorgeous texture Natee adds to all of their work is unparalleled, to me. These are pencils. They are one inch by one inch. Come on! What the fuck. I will have a post dedicate specifically to them at some point because they continuously astound me with their skill.
