With my major deadlines dealt with for the time being, I am faced with filing my income tax today, and while that is important, I am procrastinating by doing this instead. I don't wanna hear anyone tell me this is a bad idea because 1. I know and 2. I don't make enough money for either me or the government to really care that much. Let's get into it. in the shimmering darkness of a strange jungle, a tiger curls atop a pile of broken machinery Tiger illustration for Far Distant by A Liang Chan
I'm starting this one off with a plug for a crowdfunding campaign I would like to see succeed. A Liang Chan (on here @fungi) is an incredibly talented illustrator whose work you may recognize from things like World Ending Game by Everest Pipkin. A's work rides a line between editorial illustrations and stylized fantasy in a way I have always admired and I can't wait to see what it looks like when they are able to make a full 50 page comic. This piece is so wondefully evocative and moody. I love the use of noise texture and the eerie twisting of the tiger's body over this machine. Papercraft dioramas show a variety of ocean life. Schools of fish, kelp, coral and large predatory fish Papercraft dioramas by Itimaru1031
I love these dioramas for their well selected palettes, the incredible attention to detail and texture on the large fish, and the overall sense of flow and movement each one creates. It's so cool to see someone doing this with papercraft. A character design sheet for common dwarf meowls and a travelling meowl tamer, whose scarf is a gigantic nest Travelling Meowl Tamer design sheet by pikat
Constantly humbled by how good some people are in their learning stage. This character design conceit is so clever. The nest/scarf is bold, breaks the silhouette but is instantly readable. Its a great character design for how easy it is to parse what is happening here, not to even mention its just very well drawn and cute. A gloved hand touches a mirror, cracking in a swirling pattern from the point of contact. Half of the shards show the true reflection in neutral tones. Half of the shards reveal a vibrant fey version of the character in reds, blues and greens. A touch of Wild Magic by Mike Pape
A really cleverly put together composition with excellent use of contrast and this wonderful flow where the twisting shards of the shattered mirror all lead back to the point of contact of the hand. The artist rendered both figures in their entirety to create this piece, and then masked out the segments of the shards. Cleverly he offset the two figures to get this nice shattered state, where you get to see large sections of both faces to see the shift in body language and overall vibe. A 5 by 6 grid of immaculately rendered pencil portraits of animals. Thirty Animals by Natee Himmapaan
I could gush all fucking day about Natee's work, for fucking real. This is a rearrangement of a small portrait series they did a while back. When I say small, I goddamn mean it. Each of these is one square inch. The technical mastery and gorgeous texture Natee adds to all of their work is unparalleled, to me. These are pencils. They are one inch by one inch. Come on! What the fuck. I will have a post dedicate specifically to them at some point because they continuously astound me with their skill. ![A serpent has 4 pairs of feathery wings. It's colouration goes from deep, cold blue to light orange-y brown to white.](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Fu-L8WrX0AMaNLQ?format=jpg&name=4096x4096] The Great Feathered Serpent by Unravy_
People are just out here doing way sicker dragon designs than you can imagine. I always appreciate how great creature concept artists understand not to just make a creature one monochrome colour, or two, but to use the real colour schemes that animals have because they are vibrant and interesting and make your creatures look more believable. I love the thick, muscular shoulders on all the wings, here. A lone piano is overgrown with flowers and fungi. Sheet music is strewn on the ground. Wild Youth album cover by HookieDuke
This was done as an album cover for DABIN, a Toronto-based electronic musician, for an acoustic album. I mostly just really like the look of overgrown human artifacts. RIP to this piano, but those plants fucking rule. The main character from indie game Spiritfarer holds a shooting star in her hands. Spiritfarer vinyl album art by Erin Vest
Speaking of album covers, I wanted to highlight some of the stuff from Erin Vests gorgeous work on the Spiritfarer vinyl's album art. I liked Spiritfarer a lot and it's nice to see it's dreamy, cozy and yet melancholic vibes captured here. I've always hated that "pastel" when referring to colour palettes always is these washed out tones, because when I think of what pastels actually look like in practice its always more like this: vibrant, smeary and invading each other's space in a way that creates richness. Click through for a couple more really really pretty pieces for a game I like a whole lot. Gwyndolin from Dark Souls rendered in ivory and gold shades. They hold aloft the darkmoon bow, the spikes of their crown extend forwards. Gwyndolin by haguking8888
I am and remain Dark Souls-pilled. It occupies a lot of my brain in any given week. Gwyndolin is such a fun, tragic character. This pieces has such a great flow to it and I'm extremely jealous of how well this artist handles fabric. The detailing on Gwyndolins Darkmoon crown is also so cool. I love the look of the spikes pushing forward like this, rather than just radiating outwards in a flat plane.
