So I actually was going to write about this in reply to another post but realized it was such a doozy that I decided to write a post about it. I haven't really experienced many bugs in the game thus far for what it's worth (In the technical sense of, a thing is fundamentally broken, not, funny NPCs getting caught on geometry) and only one CTD during my trials last night, however, the preceding experience with the shipbuilder for me is significantly funnier and less tragic (if still frustrating at the time).
So the other day I captured a ship, which was of a type/styling I'd not seen before so I said, what the heck, let's try to modify it. I did, spent an hour and change messing with things, got a ship I wanted. Okay I said, let's just change the name and wrap this up. Enter the name (I was going for a vibe so she was the Sulaco, sue me) and enter it.
The builder, exits, as it does. Ship name: Va'ruun Hymn, the exact same as it was when I started. Maybe it didn't like that I did that after doing so much work? Exit the menu, enter again, no change. I am confused, figure it must be a bug, restart the game.
Come back, it is no longer named the Hymn. Now, it is named something along the lines of UC Ship Design A. Okay, I think, that's weird. But maybe now I can change the name? No dice. Okay, well, I'm a little resigned, so I accept it and fiddle with the paint scheme so I can at least customize it a bit.
Exit the menu. My ship is gone. Completely gone. There's an objective marker pointing towards where its ramp was, so, maybe it teleported into the ground? I use a lil bit of console magic and nope, nothing there too. Can't fast travel either. I reload a save. Ship is there up until I change the paint job. Can't change the name at all.
In the end, I call it a wash, reload a save before I spent all my time and money, and build the Isopod out of my old, purchased ship instead, which was probably the better idea anyway. However, I did do some research and apparently one of the possible fixed for this (which I attempted with my bugged save; still no luck) is to disconnect from the internet which ????
Software dependency is a bizarre creature and I don't think I'll ever understand it.
