I feel like it's a huge missed opportunity that there's no like, Crusader Kings or Hearts of Iron style grand strategy Battletech game where you're not only setting half your logistics capabilities on fire just to get a couple dozen heavy mechs but also trying to stop your cousin and 3rd in line to inherit from having the design bureau shot because they keep telling him they're not allowed to put real PPCs on his parade mech.

There was a mod for Crusader Kings 2 called Crisis of the Confederation that was a science fiction total conversion complete with cloned royal bloodlines and federal infighting, with big space battles across multiple star systems
Unfortunately development died off (solo dev iirc and it was probably the most ambitious CK2 mod I'd ever laid eyes on)
