i hit eggsecutive 600 today! i hadn't ever gotten above maybe 250 before this week, so i'm kinda amazed and in awe of myself. guess i hit some kind of breakthrough, maybe even just got lucky with a good team carrying me a couple rounds and that was all i needed!

something interesting about the salmon run ranking system is that you don't get much of chance to get used to higher difficulties in order to start succeeding at them - you reach a new high, play maybe 80 seconds of it before losing during wave 1 because you're overwhelmed by the amount of bosses and aren't sure how to adjust your priorities, and immediately get dumped back at the lower difficulty that you're more used to. i've found that it only takes me 3ish full rounds to get used to a higher difficulty and figure out how to hold my own, but i can only get those 3 full rounds if i'm very lucky and get very good rng and/or teammates!

i suppose there's always private battles if you want to practice a higher difficulty that you haven't quite earned, but it's just not very helpful practice without at least 3 players, and while my partner has some friends who play splatoon, we're definitely the most hardcore salmon runners.

but hey, if any of y'all want to play some salmon run with me in order to get carried through a taste of higher levels (or just to have a reliable teammate if you're also a 300-500 level player yourself) hmu!

eyyyy congratz!! Hitting 600 is no joke; you really gotta line up the time required, weapon skills needed, and land a team who gels. I do think it's getting easier as time goes on and pool of players biases to the hard core players that stick it out1, but there's always times people are having bad days/rng is bad for a team/the players' strategies or biases don't align well. I'm thinking I might pick out a time to finally push to gold badges and/or max threat sometime soonish.

My discord is the same as my @ here; you can also find me in the eggbug pool as 'a triangle'. These days I've been playing a lot around 14-16:00 CST but more usual is after 19:30. I've got a couple other good slamon runders I play with often; maybe we can organize a day even!

  1. at the very very end of Splatoon 2's "there's no 3 yet" lifetime, it was incredible playing; matchmaking was just chock full of cracked players and hitting max threat was fun 'cuz you were all just... steamrollin'. You'd walk away with thrice the quota of eggs and a completely inked stage at 200% threat. We're not there in Splat 3, but I am noticing way more better players overall (and I think eggstra work helps here too; such a good teaching tool)

I think it helped that I played right after the stage change both this time and the one previous, so higher level players were all reset back to 40, so I was more likely to get matched with people who could carry me long enough that i was able to get the experience I needed to carry myself.

i sometimes play during the workday while my kid is in daycare, but more often after she goes to bed around 8pm central. my switch friend code is SW-2116-1410-9441 if you wanna add me! i should join the eggbug pool too...

my partner and i got into splatoon in like 2020, shortly after the final fest i think, so we only ever knew splat2 once it was a little quieter and more hardcore! took a while for me to git gud, but by the end i was hovering around... maybe profreshional 300 iirc? i only hit max threat a handful of times, mostly when grizzco weapons were in rotation. i'm excited to make it to max threat in splat3 eventually, but also a little scared... i don't even know what level is max and i haven't looked it up bc idk which is worse, being almost there, or not and having a ways to go!

the first eggstra work i only got to play maybe half a dozen times, and only once the next event and idk if i totally missed any others - i've been hella busy working so before this week i'd barely touched the game since like may and even the couple months before that wasn't playing super often. but i'm a little less busy now, so i'm super excited to give the next eggstra work a real solid go with my new skills, whenever it is!
