i didn't realize how highly i value "story elements become relevant over and over again in all sorts of different ways" until i said it there. no wonder i'm such a big fan of, like, homestuck, and brandon sanderson's works. and fanfiction, where the same old plot points and characters are re-examined and re-used and made anew, minor characters and small scenes and passing comments pulled out and played with.
