i'm finally working through some of my assigned reading for doula certification and i gotta say. it is so annoying when a book starts with a note acknowledging the diversity of families and explaining that their language choices are not meant to exclude non-woman birthgivers or non-m/f couples. and then proceeds to exclusively use words such as "mother" and "husband".
like great, you know that lgbt+ parents exist and that cishetnormative language makes them feel excluded, and decided to use that language ANYWAY.
bonus points if the book continuously points out potential single parent experiences in contrast to m/f couple experiences. like ok you even provably know how to hold room for the exception and again decided not to do that for lgbt+ parents
